Feathered Chaos Photo LLC is a photography art studio in Pullman, Washington, created by a soon-to-be retired college professor with over 30 years studying animals - from physiology to behavior. That long classroom and research experience shapes how I move through a marsh or forest, how I read an animal's posture, and when I press the shutter.
My photographs and handmade pieces grow out of this slow way of looking, blending scientific curiosity with a quiet, poetic approach to light, form, and gesture.
I invite you to wander the galleries, read the field notes, and reach out if a piece or story speaks to you.
Decades of animal behavior study shape photographs that invite calm, careful attention to wildlife.
Years of research help me anticipate subtle gestures and authentic wildlife moments. This attention to detail also shapes how I view landscapes, macro photography, and even street photography.
I explore historical and handcrafted methods that give each finished artwork a tactile presence.
My work lingers on stillness, gentle light, and patient encounters with familiar wild neighbors and everyday scenes.
I have spent more than thirty years studying how animals behave, then slipping outside after class with binoculars and, eventually, a camera. Those seasons of watching migrations, courtship displays, and quiet feeding visits now pour into my photographs, which are less about spectacle and more about small, honest moments in the field.
As retirement approaches, I am trading chalkboards for muddy boots and big lenses. Feathered Chaos Photo grew from a childhood camera, a long academic career, and a wish to share nature's poetry more directly. I hope these images and field notes encourage you to pause, look closely, and perhaps carry a bit more wilderness into your own spaces.
